'Man' will not know 'himself' until his/her back is against the wall?

We all hold the adaptable ability to ensure the provision of integrity, dignity and humanitarian identity. This is true within our normal daily lives and in situations extraordinary.

The most revealing time to test our Resilience is when our society experiences a period of what is commonly termed a 'Disruptive Challenge'.

This could be anything from the consequences of an extreme weather system to a financial melt down. (there are many more sensational type scenarios that can cause chaos to our daily lives!)

During such challenges to our society it is usual to experience a power outage.

Loss of electricity affects lighting, heating, electronic equipment.

If the electrical outage is widespread the secondry affects can also include:

  • loss of mobile communications after 1 hour
  • loss of mains water and 'effective' sewage disposal after 6 hours.
  • the closure of fuel stations.

As you will imagine if this disruption continues the situation can escalate into a  cascade of associated problems.

This is where the initiatives that are common to the host site on which this group is accomodated by, come into their own. Autonomous systems, capable of existing for periods of time, separate or independent to the centralised systems on which we all depend.

It is these systems that can be termed Resilient and it is this Resilience that we will be concentrating on and discussing on this group.
