List Of Plant Dyes By Colour

This list gives only plant names applicable to each colour. For details on the use of each plant, consult the following list which is organized alphabetically by plant name. The asterisk (*) in this list indicates that the plant so marked gives a dye which is not a simple colour but a mixture; e.g., bloodroot, which gives a reddish-orange dye, is listed with an asterisk under both red and orange. Some plants give both a simple colour and a mixed colour which includes the simple one; these are not asterisked under the simple colour but are under the colour found only in the mixture. For example, logwood yields both a grey and a blue-grey dye; it is asterisked under blue but not under grey.
