The Angle Grinder
The angle grinder is potentially the most dangerous of power tools. Read the manufacturer’s litreature thoroughly and follow these steps to help prevent injury:
1 - About the power cable
Always check the condition of the plug and power cable before use, and have
them replaced by a specialist if defective.
Keep the cable well clear of the work area - the grinder can cut through the
cable in a moment, exposing dangerous levels of electricity.
Also remember that the work-piece can become hot enough to burn through the
cable - always be aware of where the cable is.
2 - Checking the grinder status
Make sure the grinder is switched off before inserting the plug into the socket.
Always make sure that the grinding wheel has come to a complete stop before
setting the grinder down.
3 - Health protection
Always wear goggles during grinding and brushing operations.
It is also a good idea to wear gloves and ear defenders. Never grind any material
containing asbestos.
4 - Isolating the grinder and checking accessories
Always withdraw the plug from the mains before carrying out any operation
on the grinder.
You MUST check that any accessories you do use conform to the recommended
rpm and grinder speeds.
Note that using accessories at a higher-than-rated rpm can lead to explosive
failure of the accessory.
Give the wheel a couple of turns before plugging the power back in to check
it can move freely.
