Modelling Tools
Glue Gun
SIZE: Length: 8in.
MATERIAL: Various
USE: To apply hot, liquid glue
A dry stick of glue is loaded into the glue gun, which when plugged into the electricity supply, heats up in about three minutes to provide a thin stream of liquid glue at the squeeze of the trigger. When the trigger is released, the supply of glue is cut off preventing excess glue from dripping onto the work or bench, The glue dries in 60 seconds under hand pressure, which together with the control of application makes it an ideal tool for the model maker.
The gun also makes an effective caulking tool when loaded with special caulking sticks instead of glue.
Miniature Power Tool
SIZE: Length: 8in.; Speed: 5,000 to 25.000 rpm
MATERIAL: Various
ACCESSORIES: Cutters, stones. | brushes
ATTACHMENTS: Drill press stand, bench stand, router attachment, speed control unit
USE: To cut, grind- sand, abrade and polish on a small scale
The miniature power tool provides most of the features incorporated in large scale power tools, but its size makes it particularly suitable for model makers. It is equally useful for work on small detail of any kind. Miniature grindstones, cutting wheels, wire brushes, tiles and drum sanders can all be fitted into the chuck of the miniature power tool.
Tool in drill press
The tool can be applied to the work free-hand or held in an adjustable bench stand, leaving both hands free to hold the work against the cutters. It can also be clamped in a drill press stand, which provides accurate vertical alignment. Both stands should be firmly attached to the bench. The router attachment jigs the depth of cut to provide surface routing, and can be used free-hand or with a fence, for straight cuts.
The finish of the cut is determined by the speed of the cutter. A variable speed mode! is preferable as it can be adjusted to suit the circumstances.
Be careful not to apply too much pressure to the tool, or you could damage the motor or bend the shaft of the cutter. Wear goggles when grinding any kind of metal.
