Medicinal Uses: Constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, source
of omega-3 fatty acids. May benefit women with ovarian dysfunction and reduce
risk of breast and colon cancer.
Part used: Seed.
Forms available: Whole seed; expressed oil of seed in bottles or
capsules.
Caution: Do not take flaxseed if you have a painful bowel condition
or if you suspect you may have a bowel obstruction. May interact with anticoagulant
drugs. Mucilage from the seeds may affect absorption of other drugs.
