Also called: Sabal.
Source: Native to the south-eastern United States.
Part used: Fruit.
Medicinal Uses: Prostate enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia,
or BPH).
Forms available: Capsules, tinctures. Some products are
standardised to 90 per cent free fatty acids
Caution: Rarely, people taking the herb experience cases
of stomach upset. More importantly, before you take saw palmetto, consult
your doctor for a diagnosis; prostate cancer has symptoms similar to BPH.
