Sunburn Remedies
Spending an hour in the early morning or late afternoon sun is healthy for
your body and spirit. But too much sun can damage the skin. Wear a sunscreen
and protective clothing between
10 am and 4 pm when the suns rays are strongest. The following remedies can
ease the pain of sunburn and speed healing.
Cooling facial mist
Witch hazel, aloe vera. lavender, and rose water make a cooling and healing
lotion for sunburned skin.
I teaspoon distilled witch hazel 20 drops lavender essential oil 60m1 (2fl
oz) rose water 180m1 (6fl oz) aloe very juice
Mix the witch hazel and lavender in a spray bottle. Shake vigorously Add the
rose water and aloe vera and shake again. Store in the refrigerator, and mist
skin as often as desired.
Yogurt mask
Yogurt and lavender essential oil calr sunburned or windbumed skin.
I tablespoon plain whole-milk yogurt I drop lavender essential oil
Mix the ingredients into a paste and smooth over your skin. Wash off wit]
tepid water after 15 minutes.
Cooling the skin
Mix a drop of lavender essential oil with a tablespoon of aloe vera gel. Spread
gently over your burned skin
Honey mask
As honey moisturizes, aloe vera helps cool and heal burned skin. Lavender
essential oil heals bums and helps the production of healthy skin cells.
2 teaspoons raw honey
2 teaspoons aloe vera gel
2 drops lavender essential oil
Mix the ingredients. Dampen your face with cool water, apply the mask to your
skin and leave for 20 minutes. Rinse with tepid water
Eyelid soother
Close swollen, sunburned eyelids and cover with cucumber slices or cool tea
bags for I S minutes.
Baking soda bath
The quickest way to cool sunburn
is by soaking in a tub of tepid water. Baking soda and lavender essential
oil draw out heat and calm inflammation.
250g (8oz) baking soda
10 drops lavender essential oil
Add the ingredients to a tub of tepid water, and stir to dissolve. Soak for
up
to 20 minutes. Avoid soap as it dries and irritates tender, burned skin. Pat
yourself dry gently Apply a soothing body lotion to seal in moisture.
Healing bath
Green tea's potent antioxidants help neutralize cell damage. Chamomile and
calendula provide additional skinsoothing and healing compounds.
2.5 litres (4 pints) water
I Og (2 teaspoons) dried green tea lOg (2 teaspoons) dried chamomile IOg (2
teaspoons) dried calendula
Bring the water and herbs to a boil in a covered pot Remove from the heat
and steep until cool. Strain, and add the tea to a tepid bath. Soak daily
for 20 minutes until your sunburn heals.
Green tea healer
Drink 750m1(24fl oz) of green tea daily to provide extra antioxidants to help
your sunburned skin heal.
Cooling sunburn spray
Green tea, aloe juice, and lavender essential oil will help cool sunburn and
promote skin healing.
60ml (2fl oz) brewed green tea 60ml (2fl oz) aloe very juice
/4 teaspoon lavender essential oil
Mix the ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake well. Spray liberally over your
burned skin. Refrigerate, and use within two weeks.
